This beautiful Gothic building was built in 1829 and designed by the famous architect John Semple. The structure has recently undergone extensive restoration to the roof , door and windows.
According to Dr. Maurice Craig the famous architectural historian Feighcullen is by a large margin the most accomplished and attractive church of its kind. Feighcullen is currently owned by the Hovenden family and is listed as part of Irelands Architectural Heritage.
The construction is of finely cut limestone with a graceful Gothic style entrance door and an imposing belfry with a beautiful steeple. There are four matching smaller steeples on each corner of the building adding to its elegance and symmetry.
There are ten large lancet-arch gothic style windows (five on each side of the building) plus a large traceried (three light) window to the east gable end, as seen in the photograph. All windows have been replaced recently, are double glazed and the frames are made of hardwood with chamfered stone surrounds. The roof is of beautifully hand matched "Blue Bangor " slate.
The external beauty of Feighcullen is matched by the stunning interior. As you enter the building through the cut-stone entrance you can turn left or right and arrive through archways into the main body of the church. There is beautiful stonework, glorious archways and carvings, which could easily be incorporated into a stunning living space.
